Tech Tip: Windows 10, To Use or Not to Use?
Windows 10, To Use or Not to Use?
DAT/EM is beginning to change its tune. We used to advise to just say “No!” to Windows 10, but now it’s, “A definite maybe!” without guarantees.
DAT/EM software installs and runs on Windows 10, but the question is whether reliable OpenGL stereo will work. DAT/EM will not guarantee success with Windows 10, but we want you to know there are a few Windows 10 workstations that work. They share the following characteristics:
- They have all possible Windows Updates installed.
- They have the latest nVidia driver for the video card.
- They have an nVidia Quadro 4000 or better/newer nVidia video card.
- Automatic video driver updates are turned off in Windows 10.
We have not tested and do not intend to test any video card model lower than a Quadro 4000. To everyone out there still using a Quadro FX 3700 or 3800 or similar, we recommend you upgrade your video card regardless of your Windows 10 plans.
We welcome more user reports of successfully or unsuccessfully using Windows 10. Let us know your video card model. Send your report to support@datem.com.
