A Global Mapper Extension at Work – The DAT/EM Toolbar

Recorded July 22, 2021

The Global Mapper SDK offers dual benefits for software developers: it provides the means to incorporate much of the functionality of the software into third-party applications and it offers the opportunity to customize Global Mapper through the creation of extensions and custom toolbars. In this GeoTalks Express presentation, we will be taking a look at an example of the latter. Software engineers from Alaska-based DAT/EM Systems International have used the SDK to develop a toolbar for Global Mapper that creates a direct connection with the company’s Summit Evolution stereoplotter. This allows Summit Evolution to be used as a 3D digitizing device for Global Mapper and allows Global Mapper projects to utilize the tools of Summit Evolution.

Introducing the New DAT/EM Toolbar for Global Mapper

Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 2:00 pm (EST)

The new Global Mapper Extension from DAT/EM Systems International connects Global Mapper® from Blue Marble Geographics® with any edition (Professional, Feature Collection or Lite) of DAT/EM's famous Summit Evolution™ stereoplotter. The extension is provided at no additional cost with any purchased or supported Summit Evolution license. It enables Summit Evolution to be a 3D digitizing device for Global Mapper and allows Global Mapper projects to utilize the tools of Summit Evolution.

During this hour-long presentation, application specialists from DAT/EM Systems and Blue Marble will explore the key functions of this new extension.

DAT/EM LandScape and PCI Geomatica 2014 for Accurate DEM creation

Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) play an important role in terrain-related GIS applications. Chief among the many factors that affect the accuracy of DEMs is the accuracy, type, and resolution of the source data. Photogrammetric DEMs derived from stereo imagery can deliver highly accurate terrain data, but can be time consuming and difficult to create in dense urban cores or heavily forested areas. Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) offers high density data capture that provides the opportunity to make high-quality elevation models of two distinct types: DSMs that include tree canopy and/or building surfaces, or bare-earth DEMs.

Join experts from PCI Geomatics and DAT/EM Systems International as we demonstrate a workflow that leverages DAT/EM’s LandScape software to ingest LiDAR data and generate 3D point clouds. Learn how these point clouds can be easily ingested into Geomatica using Python scripting for accurate DEM creation, and how using Geomatica’s Smart GeoFill technology will allow you to merge DEMs from multiple sources at varying accuracies and resolutions into one homogeneous product.
